Description:
The can be found in in Newfoundland and Northern Russia Harp Seals are carnivores, the eat fish and crustaceans, there predators include polar bears, Orcas, sharks, and sometimes even walruses. They spend most of there time in water and are submerged for 10 to 15 minutes. But the young are born on land. The pups are know for their white coats and humans have been hunting them for centuries. The harp seal has been sighted in Maine and New Jersey. Young pups are called "Men in Black" when they are born. Adult harp seals are approximately 5 to 6 feet long.

Interesting Facts:
After two to three days the pups white coat turns purple. At birth are are just under three feet. The pups nurse on high-fat milk for approximately 12 days, during which they gain 5 pounds per day and develop a thicker blubber layer. Harp seals are part of the modern family. Harp seals are divided into 3 different stocks. Adult females leave their pups on the ice without eating for approximately 6 weeks. Pups can lose up to half of their body weight before they enter the water and begin feeding on their own. Males seals dance to win their males. The average weight is 200 pounds. After pups are weaned and and left alone, adult seals being mating.

Habitat:
Harp seals are highly migratory. Harp seals prefer to swim in the Caribbean and South America. Harp seals spend little time and water, but when on land they like to be cold. The harp seals lifespan is 30-40 years. When baby seals are born mothers can determine whether if its her baby by there eye color. During extensive seasonal migrations, large groups may feed and travel together. They eat a variety of fish and invertebrates, but mainly focus on smaller fish such as pelican, Artic and polar cod, and invertebrates. Their average maximum dive is about 1,000,000 feet.
